YouTube has introduced a new feature to ease the burden on users of its long-standing Shorts content, making it possible to largely disable short video streaming. This update expands on the previously offered restriction options, notably increasing user control.
Shorts Tracking Time Can Now Be Reset
YouTube’s previously offered timer feature allowed users to limit Shorts viewing time to a specific range, varying from 15 minutes to 2 hours.
With the new update, it’s now possible to reduce this limit to 0 minutes, allowing users to virtually completely shut down the Shorts feed.
It can be easily activated via the settings.
The new feature is accessible through the Time management section in the Settings menu of the YouTube app, and users can activate it by selecting the “Shorts Stream usage limit” option. When this setting is enabled, users will see a “time limit exceeded” warning when they go to the Shorts tab, and their access to the Shorts stream will be blocked.
Shorts don’t completely disappear.
Although this feature largely blocks the Shorts feed, short videos aren’t completely removed from the platform, and users can continue to encounter this content in different sections. It’s specifically noted that Shorts videos continue to appear in areas like the Subscriptions tab.
A New Era in User Experience
With this update, YouTube appears to be adopting a more flexible approach to Shorts content, while also allowing for greater intervention in users’ content consumption habits.
